
Steel Pulse and The Slits, 1970s

When an aunt sent Oye Diran an old family photo, he was mesmerised by the high sense of fashion and style exhibited by the Yoruba women of West Africa in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
The photo was of his mother and her sister adorned in iro and buba, the colourful two-piece outfit of wrapped skirt and top popular with Yoruba women in Nigeria.
Horror movie fans might get the chance to see George A. Romero’s long lost 1973 feature “The Amusement Park” on the big screen. According to a report published this week from Bloody Disgusting, Yellow Veil Pictures has come on board the project to handle the movie’s worldwide distribution rights.

I love the story Andy Warhol told about her and boyfriend Chris Stein in his diary. He said they had two apartments: a large fancy one and a small shoddy one. They’d receive interviewers and photographers in the shoddy one to protect their “punk” image.
